Balance your 7 Chakra system with Bija Mantras

I often get asked by my clients if they can help to balance and maintain their 7 Chakra system themselves- the answer is yes- there are many ways!

Bija Mantras are a simple yet effective way of doing this.

What are Bija Mantras?

Bija means ‘seed’. Bija Mantras are a form of Vocal Toning used to balance the 7 Chakra system. They are one syllable ‘seed’ sounds that when spoken aloud resonate within your body and activate the energy of the Chakras.

Each of the 7 Chakras from the 7 Chakra system has its own Bija Mantra- these sounds help us to become more aware and focus our intent on the particular Chakra associated with the sound.

When spoken aloud the vibrations they form target specific Chakras, this can help clear any blocked energy and allow the energy to flow more freely thereby bringing balance, peace, harmony and wellness.

By chanting the 7 Chakra Bija Mantras we use 5 different tongue positions- this is said to stimulate reflex points within the mouth that relate to various ‘nadis’ (channels where energy flows).

OM is considered in Eastern traditions to be the ‘seed’ of all sounds or ‘the universal’ sound. It is pronounced AUM and when spoken the sound starts at the back of our mouths ‘AH’ moves to the middle ‘UH’ and ends at the front with our lips closed and vibrating ‘MM’

Bija Mantras create different sounds, breaths and vibrations, this helps us to focus intent, calm the mind, resonate with the energy of that particular Chakra and bring balance to the Chakra – thereby bring balance to your mind, body and soul.

How can I use Bija Mantras?

Try to focus on the area of the body the chakra relates to- the first letter of the bija mantra can bring your consciousness to where the Chakra is- with practice you can feel the sound vibrate in that area.

Visualise the colour of the particular Chakra you are working on - rest your hands on the area it corresponds to as you chant the ‘seed’ sound for that particular Chakra as you do so set your intent on balancing and harmonising it.

Repeat and chant the mantras for 5/10 minutes each day - either one at a time or in sequence- if you feel one particular Chakra is out of balance you can just focus on that Chakra.

The Bija Mantras

LAM- Root

VAM- Sacral

RAM- Solar Plexus

YAM- Heart

HAM-Throat

OM (Pronounced AUM)- Third Eye

OM (Pronounced AUM, not spoken aloud) - Crown

The best way to understand and feel the power that Bija Mantras have is to actually speak them.

I start each day chanting the Bija Mantras for around 5/10 minutes and in doing so I personally feel more alert, energised and aware of my body and surroundings.

Have a go and see how they work for you!
